Make-Up Air Heating – an efficient methodf for replacing exhausted air.
Used in construction, manufacturing, storage facitilies, anywere volume of airflow must be heated and maintained. These are direct-fired units but no exposed flames. Widely used in the rental industry. Ductable and economical.

Make-Up Air Heaters, for keeping air heating and circulating
Make-up air heaters are a type of direct-fired heater but unlike construction “salamander” type open-flame heaters, these heater have an enclosed heating chamber, that the air flows through being heated. Unlike an indirect-fired heater which is similar to a home furnace that keeps recirculating and reheating the same air, these heaters can be used as recirculating, but mostly are used to bring in, and heat fresh air into areas that usually have exhaust fans clearing the interior of unwanted air. Ideal for construction sites where a more economical solution to indirect-fired heater may have been used, the rental and event industry is using these widely. Be aware that some carbon monoxide can be present in combusted air, but with less than 5ppm and adequate ventilation these unts are productive.
Make-Up Air vs Recirculating Heater
Make-up air heat is better for curing and drying wet building materials such as drywall, concrete, paint and adhesives. This is “to some extent”, as there still is water vapor in direct-fired heater air (less than from an indirect-fired heater) but drying is helped by the greater air flow. Make-up air units are constantly introducing fresh outside air, the evaporated moisture is forced out of the building by the new dry air coming in. A recirculating heater attempts to control the temperature issue only. The biggest advantage of recirculating heaters is that they can be used to heat occupied buildings because they are typically indirect heaters.
L.B. White Commander manages air conditions in construction sites where improved air quality, temperature control, and moisture reduction is a necessity. These areas demand tempered heat while maintaining positive pressure all done using the Commanders modulating control and powerful air flow that is proven.
Make-Up Air Unit
- 500K BTU and One MIllion BTU units available
- Ductable
- Electical Requirements
500K: 120V / 60 Amp /Singlephase – NEMA 5-20P on the MUA; NEMA 5-20R Female Power Cord End
1000K: 240V / 60 Amp / Singlephase – NEMA LL6-20P on the MUA; NEMA L6-20R Female Power Cord End
Features/Value:
- Evenly heats interior and surfaces
- Maintains positive building pressure
- Modulating control reduces fuel costs
- Provides tempered fresh air- As fresh air is drawn through the unit it is temperature controlled through modulation.
- Constant Air Exchange-by exchanging the air with fresh air, moisture and contaminants in the air will be replaced.
- Evenly heats interior and surfaces-because there is constant air flow applying heat, the air will disperse versus a heater that is more directional.
- Maintains positive building pressure-a make-up air unit is exchanging the air balancing the pressure of the inside space.
Modulating control reduces fuel costs-a make-up air unit uses modulation to throttle the gas valve applying only the necessary fuel to maintain setpoint versus a heater runs full on to meet setpoint using excess fuel that is inefficient perhaps causing overshoot to setpoint.
Accessories:
- Thermostat (No cord included, customer supplied, hard wire into the heater)
- Remote Digital Temp Control
- Fork Pockets
- Kit, Duct, White, Flexible, 24” Dia x 25’, w/clamp
- Kit, Duct, White, Flexible, 16” Dia x 25’ , w/clamp
- 2nd Stage Regulator (For 500K and 1M)
