Mighty Mole Horizontal Boring for skid steers, mini skid steers, and mini excavators

McLaughlin’s (a Vermeer Co.) “Mighty Mole” Hydraulic Horizontal Boring Attachments produce bores up to 4-1/2″ diameter using the dry compaction boring method of drilling. Speeds of 8′ per minute and distances of 100′ are possible depending on soil conditions. Wet boring allows diameters up to 10″.

McLaughlin’s Mighty Mole Horizontal Boring Attachment is available in four distinct models: skid steer, mini skid steer, mini-excavator, and weld-on (not listed, please call). When ordering, you additionally order a Moleing Package which provides the most-common setup of 60′ of drill rod and a basic moleing head (1/34″). Add additional heads for progressively reaming larger diameters.

The M4500SS Skid Steer Boring Attachment is for full-size skid steers and includes a Quick attach plate. Includes manual and T-Handle guide, Drill Rods to 60′ and a Moling head to bore a 1 3/4″ hole, a reamer to increase your bore to 2.5″… or to 3.5″ or 4.5″ with additional reamers. The M4500SS comes with a quick attach backplate and has (3) different pin-in-place boring positions for the moleing attachment to allow for center, left, and right attachment positions for working close to buildings or existing structures.

The M4500MS Mini Skid Steer Boring Attachment includes a quick-attach backplate and a center-mounted moleing attachment with a quick-detach pin kit.

The M4500ME Mini Excavator Boring Attachment works with any mini-excavator bucket and is a wedge design that attaches to the bucket blade and is strapped in place. The strap is placed around the bucket of the skid steer loader and the M-450000 is set in the appropriate boring position. The strap is then tightened with a ratchet-type mech- anism to assure on-line accuracy throughout the duration of the bore. This mounting system allows the boring motor to be moved to any position on the bucket accommodating various job layouts.
NOTE: Many mini-ex owners order the M-450000 unit and make their own top mount with pins to replace their bucket or be picked up with a bucket coupler.

The M-450000 Weld-On Boring Attachment comes with a weld-on bracket so the mole can ve quickly installed and removed with a pin connection. OR, can be mounted on the side of a bucket or onto a blade. A mounting plate is welded to the inside of the skid steer loader bucket. The M-450000 slides into the bracket and is pinned into place providing for fast set up and stability during the bore. The flush mount plate extends only 2″ (5.1 cm) into the bucket and does not effect the use of the bucket for digging operations.

Here’s how it works: You bore 1 3/4″. From the far pit, you attach the 2.5″ reamer with the “Chinese finger” and pull the reamer and the pipe back to you. If you want a 3.5″ bore you send the rod again to the far pit, attach the 3.5″ reamer and pull back. Do the same with the 4.5″ reamer, which requires a 3.5″ bore first.
